Small People

We know that children don’t want to be trapped in a church service with adults, having to sit still and listen to grown-up stuff. So, on Sunday mornings at Surrey Chapel we run three groups for younger children:

    • a crèche for the very tiny ones
    • a Beginners group for 3-6 year olds, and
    • a Juniors group for 7-11 years olds

We welcome all children to our Young Church activities and encourage young visitors to our church to join our sessions, if they would like. Our leaders and helpers are all CRB checked and many of us work as teachers in everyday life.

We aim to give you a warm welcome and a positive experience of what it is like to belong to a Christian church. We want children to enjoy their time with us and come to know Jesus in a way that is relevant to their age and understanding.

We explore Bible truths through art, craft, music and drama and other practical, fun activities related to what we have read, as well as spending our ‘snack time’ together!

Young Church is very much part of Surrey Chapel as a whole. At Christmas, Beginners and Juniors prepare songs and a Nativity play to perform for our church. We also lead the morning service on occasions during the year – with all of the unexpected challenges that can bring!

We are always looking for ways to improve our teaching and learning in Young Church. We welcome feedback and are able to make arrangements for parents and carers to sit in on a session if you wish, so that you can experience how we teach. If your child has special requirements of any kind, please don’t hesitate to let us know and we will do what we can to accommodate him or her.
